IRON POT BAY 2019 “Mani” Pinot Meunier
A rarity — one of very few standalone Pinot Meunier wines in Tasmania. Iron Pot Bay's vines are cuttings from 19th century stock from Best's Great Western in the Grampians, planted at Rowella in 1996. The 2019 is bold but delicate, somewhere between a light red and a fuller rosé depending on how you serve it. Lively red fruit, a touch of warmth, and an easygoing character that works equally at room temperature or lightly chilled. Julieanne and Ashli describe it as a great summer red, perfect with duck. They're right.
OBSESSIONIST 2024 Malbec
A half-hectare block. A family vineyard on the East Coast. Twenty years of viticulture experience and the obsessive conviction that Malbec could work in this part of Tasmania. That's the story behind Obsessionist, and the wine delivers on every bit of it. Deep colour, concentrated Malbec fruit — black cherry, blueberry and violet florals — with elegant spice, fine tannins and a savoury complexity that puts it well beyond the novelty of an unusual variety. Single site, small batch.
BEAR AND BIRD 2024 Pinot Noir
Alex and Josh Winen farm their single site in the ancient riverlands of Campania in the Coal River Valley, sustainably and with full attention to where they are. Their Pinot Noir is fruit-forward, smooth and honest — cherry, raspberry and wild strawberry balanced by savoury spice and earthy tones. Supple tannins, a juicy mid-palate and a graceful, clean finish. A wine made by people who love what they're doing, on land they're proud to farm.
