Meet 2forty9 Wine Farm
Tucked away on the historic Wattlebanks property in Campania, 2forty9 Wine Farm is a family-run vineyard with a clear and simple vision: Pinot Noir, and nothing else.
A Family Farm with Deep Roots
The Green family has been farming Wattlebanks since 1954, when Arthur Ormond Green first purchased the land. Today, the third generation continues the story, Malcolm and Tracy, caring for the soil, the vines and the future of the property - along with their children Hunter and Havana, the fourth generation of the Green family.
In 2016, the family planted their first Pinot Noir vines. Since then, they’ve expanded their blocks, nurtured multiple clones, and refined their craft, all with one focus in mind - to see just how far a single variety can go in Tasmania’s cool climate.
One Variety, Many Voices
Choosing to grow only Pinot Noir is unusual, even in Tasmania. But for 2forty9, it’s an opportunity. With every season and every vintage, they explore the grape’s many expressions - from subtle aromatics to layered textures and long, elegant finishes.
By planting a mix of clones, they create wines that are complex yet balanced, showcasing the vineyard’s voice in different ways each year. No two vintages are the same, but every bottle tells a story of place, season and family.
A Vineyard for All Generations
While 2forty9 is dedicated to the craft of Pinot Noir, they’re also part of a close-knit community of growers and makers in the Coal River Valley. Their wines are poured at events like Spring in the Vines, held on a neighbouring property, where visitors come together to enjoy tastings, food, music and family-friendly fun. It’s a celebration of the region, the people, and the shared passion for Tasmanian wine.
A Taste of Coal River Valley Pinot
Coal River Valley is renowned for producing some of Tasmania’s most elegant wines, and 2forty9 is proudly adding to that reputation. Their Pinot Noir is crafted to be approachable in its youth, while also showing the structure to age gracefully.
Perfect with duck, salmon, mushroom dishes or a good wedge of cheese, these wines are made to be shared - around the table, with family and friends.
Why 2forty9 Matters
By choosing to focus on one variety, 2forty9 shows what’s possible when passion and patience come together. Every vine, every vintage, every bottle is Pinot Noir - and each one reflects the dedication of a family deeply connected to their land.
